Chapter guide

  1. Positional strength and its components

  2. Time-related strength and its components

  3. Calculating directional strength

  4. Motion, natural strength and aspects

  5. Totals, ratios and Ishta–Kashta Bala

  6. House strength, house lords and aspects

  7. Revision notes, questions and practice

How to use this material

Start with the individual strength components, check the worked calculations, and then move to total Shadbala and Bhavabala. Attempt the practice questions before checking the solutions. The full resource is in Hindi.

Why study Shadbala?

In Parashari calculations, Shadbala measures planetary strength from several perspectives. Its name means “six strengths”. It should not be read as one score that establishes whether a planet is favourable or unfavourable. Calculating strength and interpreting results are separate stages.

The six main parts

  • Sthana Bala: strength associated with position.
  • Dig Bala: directional strength in the house context.
  • Kala Bala: time-related components.
  • Cheshta Bala: components associated with planetary motion.
  • Naisargika Bala: traditional natural strength.
  • Drik Bala: assessment of aspects.
Exercise: Write down each component and its unit before looking at the total. Check the settings and Ayanamsha when comparing two software results.

Limits and context

Greater strength does not mean a favourable result in every situation. House ownership, placement, the operating Dasha and the question must be read together. Ashtakavarga is a different calculation method, and the numbers are not directly interchangeable.
